About Us
The Sovereign Mother is a non-profit foundation empowering mothers through financial and mental support during their child's first year.
Our Origin Story
Our journey didn't start in a boardroom; it started at our kitchen table. Originally founded as Bitcoin Babies within the Bitcoin community, we transitioned our international operations to The Sovereign Mother to better represent our complete, holistic vision for families. As a husband-and-wife team bridging the Netherlands and Kenya, the seed for this foundation was planted when we were expecting our own daughter (who is now almost three!).
Knowing firsthand how overwhelming and critical the first year of motherhood can be, we wanted to do something meaningful for women in Kenya. We started simply by writing The Sovereign Mother guidebook. What began as a single book quickly blossomed into a full foundation actively supporting communities across three countries.
Our Philosophy: Bitcoin as a Way of Life
For us, Bitcoin is a way of life. It stands for freedom, doing what you do best, and preserving the value of your hard work. Having seen the tangible impact of grassroots adoption firsthand—like during our family trip to Bitcoin Beach in El Salvador—we are more driven than ever.
We aren't just sending support; we are sharing a blueprint for self-reliance. By giving mothers a weekly stipend in Bitcoin (sats), we ensure they can preserve the value of their support and spend it locally, strengthening the community from within.
Our Network: Proof of Work
We are currently operating and launching five distinct cohorts across three countries, utilizing English and French:
Kenya Cohort 1
Kenya Cohort 2
Kenya Cohort 3
Pakistan Cohort 1
Burundi Cohort 1
Direct Cash Distribution via Bitcoin
To ensure that 100% of your donation reaches the mothers on the ground, we bypass expensive and slow banking intermediaries. We use Bitcoin’s Lightning Network to distribute financial aid directly, instantly, and at near-zero cost.
Circular Financial Literacy
Mothers do not just learn to save in Bitcoin; they spend these funds at local merchants trained by our program. This creates a closed-loop circular economy that boosts the local community.
Financial Transparency
Here is exactly how we allocate our funds to maximize impact and sustain our circular ecosystems:
Direct Program Allocation (61%)
Covers the weekly support flowing directly to the mothers in our active cohorts.
Coaching & Local Operations (31%)
Compensation for our dedicated local program managers and community coaches on the ground.
Ecosystem & Tech Infrastructure (8%)
Dashboard maintenance, tech infrastructure, and merchant discount campaigns.
Our Roadmap: The Road Ahead
1-Year Vision
Successfully graduate the 2026/2027 cohorts, expand local merchant networks, and launch new interactive features on the Dashboard.
5-Year Vision
Scale the 'Adopt a Program' model globally. We aim to achieve our 30th program by 2030, with 13 active programs running in 2030/2031.
10-Year Vision (Our Dream & Goal)
Be active on every continent, providing structural aid, education, and economic empowerment to over 1,000 families annually.
